The Creating Healthy Families Program (Community Action Program for Children) is intended to strengthen and support families with children aged from 0 to 6 who are at risk. The priorities for service are to provide parents with support, education, and referral to other community resources. The overall goal of this program is to support the healthy development of children and their families in our community.
Services are provided to families through weekly drop-in groups and support through periods of need. Two drop-in groups are held each week; one group 'Postnatal' is for parents with babies aged up to 9 months, and the other 'Creating Healthy Families' group for parents with children up to 6 years of age. At 'Postnatal', weekly topics are covered related to baby care, child development, health, safety, parenting and life skills. Ideas are shared and information is presented by parents, facilitators, and guest speakers. The latter group runs in much the same way but topics tend to cover a wider range of interests including vocational training, legal matters and educational topics. Child care is provided by an ECE certified Caregiver.
This program benefits from positive working partnerships with many local agencies. Community partners attend drop-in groups as guest speakers and provide valuable information resources and support to parents and program staff.
