Pregnancy Outreach Program (P.O.P.'s Program) is offered to high-risk pregnant women in Campbell River and area. The program offers weekly drop-in groups and one-on-one, outreach and in office, support as well as food vouchers, prenatal vitamins and calcium supplements to higher risk pregnant women. Most of our clients are self-referred.

The main goals are to reduce the incidence of low birth weight babies by improving the nutrition status and access to nutitious food for participants, and to promote the healthy growth and development of infants. the program offers pre and postnatal drop-in groups to provide the clients with support and information. Participants assist with lunch preparation at group and receive instruction around safe food handling. Postnatal staff assess the participants' children's needs and make referrals where necessary. The program also offers prenatal vitamins and a weekly food voucher to help meet the additional nutritional requirements during pregnancy. Calcium and iron supplements and heartburn aids are also available. Breastfeeding information and support is provided due to the nutritional benefit and low cost.
